Severe Weather
IT IS IMPORTANT THAT YOU ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE FOLLOWING PROCEDURES IN CASE OF SEVERE WEATHER CONDITIONS
It is a rare event for the school to be closed on a normal school day. It can happen if there are severe weather conditions.
Severe Weather overnight:
If heavy snow falls overnight, we will up date the front page of the school website as soon as possible and a Ping message will be sent to inform you if school is open or not. Members of staff who live locally will try to be in school to answer the phone but please do not drop your child off at school without first establishing that school will be opening.
Please be assured that we only decide to close our school in exceptional circumstances where the safety of the children is the primary concern. On occasion this may be due to the availability of teaching staff who travel some distance to reach school, rather than purely conditions for pupils getting to school.
The closure will also be posted on Kirklees website: http://www.kirklees.gov.uk/beta/announcements/disruptions-closures-and-weather/default.aspx.
Severe weather conditions during the school day:
-
If there is heavy, sustained snowfall if parents wish to collect their children before the end of the school day, please contact the school office.
-
We ask parents to come to the school office and sign out their child.
-
Children will never be sent home early without notice.
-
Even in severe weather conditions, the school day will continue until 3.25pm as usual, but please assume that after school activities will be cancelled.
-
It is parents' responsibility to inform any other after school provision about any changes to their children's after school arrangements.
-
We will liaise with the Junior School on severe weather days as any closure decisions made will impact on families with children at both schools.
If School is open during adverse weather conditions
Although we can’t guarantee it 100%, once school opens during the snowy weather we would always stay open until the end of the day and would never ask you to collect your children early. There are enough staff who live locally to ensure the children are cared for throughout the day. However, we don’t know the circumstances of individual families and if conditions worsen or your situation changes during the day which means youneed to collect your child early because you wouldn’t be able to collect them at 3.25pm, please contact the school office.
Bad weather conditions
We politely request that during any icy and snowy winter weather that parents use the gritted paths to try to avoid any accidents in the playground when entering and exiting school. Please do not walk down the ungritted driveway.
Also please ensure that your child has appropriate wet weather clothing/shoes to ensure all the children can play out - especially wellington boots in case of snowy weather. (If your child comes to school in wellies they will still need their school shoes to wear indoors). Please also allow extra time for your journey to school to accommodate additional traffic issues around the local area.
