RSE consultation Summer 2023

At Lindley CE Infant School, we promote personal wellbeing and development through a comprehensive Personal, Social, Health, Citizenship and Economic (PSHCE) education programme. PSHCE education is the curriculum subject that gives children the knowledge, understanding, attitudes and practical skills to live safe, healthy, productive lives and meet their full potential. All PSHCE teaching takes place in a safe learning environment and is underpinned by our school vision and values.

Since September 2020 schools have been required to follow statutory guidance on teaching Relationships, Sex and Health Education (RSHE) in English schools. This can be found at: https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/relationships-education-relationships-and-sex-education-rse-and-health-education

Following our focus group consultation with parents, we have reviewed our RSE (Relationships and sex education) policy and PSHCE curriculum to make sure it meets the statutory requirements, as well as the needs of our pupils. We’ve worked hard to make sure that our new curriculum reflects:

  • Age
  • Physical and emotional maturity
  • Religious and cultural backgrounds
  • Special educational needs and/or disabilities (SEND)

RSE parent focus group

In April, we held a focus group for parents to give their views on our proposed new curriculum changes. The PPT presentation can be seen below. Parents were overwhelmingly positive about the proposed changes and gave some good feedback around how to involve parents going forward.

Updated RSE policy

We’ve now updated our RSE policy and our proposed new curriculum, which we are going to call ‘Me in my world’. Our revised policy can be found below.

Me in my World (PSHCE) curriculum

We have revised our long term plan for PSHCE to ensure coverage of all aspects of the RSE guidance. Please see draft long term plan for 2023-24 and a rationale for introducing a lesson on naming private body parts for our Y2 children.

Consultation feedback

To complete our consultation, we’d like your feedback on the proposed curriculum, and the revised policy. Please complete the Microsoft form available here  if you would like to offer feedback or have any questions https://forms.office.com/e/nF8rYfpCjN
